Thursday night’s game against the Weyburn Beavers was bar none an important game for the Regina Red Sox. They were on a four game losing streak and looked to get back to .500 with a win.
The Red Sox started the game strong, though. They scored two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Beavers followed up with four runs in the top of the second. The four run inning by the Beavers marked the end of Red Sox starting pitcher Brandon Radmacher’s night. Cory Carter came into the game for the home team.
Carter pitched an excellent game for the Red Sox. He struck out 13 and allowed only two hits in seven innings.
Energized by Carter’s dominance on the mound, the Red Sox stormed back in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs scored by Travis Tessandori, Eric Baker, Chase Benfield, and Austin Drummonds.
The Beavers scored a late run, but Jacob Leyba successfully closed out the game in the top of the ninth for the Red Sox and picked up the save.
Carter’s pitching, timely offense, and Leyba’s strong finish allowed the Red Sox to successfully snap their four game losing streak with a 6-5 win over the Beavers.
