WMBL 2017 AGM Update
The WMBL held its 2017 Annual General Meeting in Swift Current, home of the 2017 league champions, this past weekend.
WMBL President Kevin Kvame finds meeting with the dedicated leadership of all 12 teams to be a positive experience for the league.
“It’s important for us to bring the teams together because there is a such wide range of baseball knowledge in the room,” said Kvame. “It’s an opportunity for each community to share their challenges and successes with their peers from around the league.”
According to Kvame, the key agenda topics included team updates, umpire scheduling and the 2018 schedule. The overall league goal is to build on the success of 2017 and Kvame has planned a facilitated planning and visioning session for early in the new year to set the future direction of the WMBL.
Baseball fans across the prairie provinces can agree that the WMBL has become much more vibrant with 12 teams and two divisions. In fact, since expansion the on-field product has become very competitive, which has created some intense local rivalries.
“We had many of our playoff series go to the final game this season and that added to the intensity of the league rivalries,” said Kvame.
The WMBL team directors also enjoyed the enthusiasm and energy of Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault, who was the keynote speaker at the AGM dinner.
“It was outstanding to have Mayor Perrault join us as he is so passionate about the Swift Current community,” said Kvame. “He is also a great supporter of the major sports teams in the area including the Swift Current 57s.”
From the frank and in depth discussions held during the AGM meetings, fans can look forward to another outstanding baseball season in 2018.
“We look forward to seeing everyone out at the park for great WMBL baseball in 2018,” said Kvame.
