The Okotoks Dawgs came one step closer to locking up the WMBL West Division on Friday night. The Dawgs played the Melville Millionaires for the second time in 2 nights, this one with a better outcome than their 6-3 loss the night before. Okotoks was able to strike off of Melville starter Wayland Moore for 1 in the first inning to take the early lead. Both starters, Moore for Melville, and David Otterman for Okotoks, were able to settle in until the action picked up in the fifth. In the top of the inning Melville took a 2-1 lead, but it was quickly countered. Okotoks counted 7 runs in a huge bottom of the fifth inning to take an 8-2 lead; a lead they would never surrender. Melville scored 3 more off of Otterman in the sixth to cut it to 8-5 but that is as close as it got. Otterman went 5.2 allowing 5 runs, 2 earned, for Okotoks. Andre Kinder took the ball for the final 3.1 innings for the Dawgs and held the Millionaires scoreless. On the Melville side, Wayland Moore and Kane Kimrey both had rough nights. Okotoks would count 2 more in the late innings, taking the 10-5 win. Offensive leaders included: Okotoks - Justin Ritchhart (2-4, R, 2 RBI) - Drew Pettit (3-4, R, 3 RBI) - Alejandro Gonzalez (2-4, R, 3 RBI) - Andrew Robbins (2-3, R, HR, 2 RBI) Melville - James Green (2-4, R, HR, 3 RBI) - Tyler Lowey (2-4, R) - Ryan Hasbini (3-4, R, RBI) Okotoks is now 4 games ahead of Medicine Hat and Lethbridge in the West Division. Lethbridge can no longer win the West Division, while Medicine Hat still has an outside chance. Melville falls 2.5 back of Regina in the East Division. |
